We are looking for a talented photojournalist to capture the 2019 West Africa Cycle Challenge 2019! This is an incredible trip through rural Sierra Leone and one of Street Child’s most unique African adventures.

Volunteering with the West Africa Cycle Challenge is guaranteed to be busy and varied and is a great opportunity to offer real value to a team whilst gaining valuable experience in field reporting and documenting. Equally you will have the opportunity to shape your own experience according to your skills, knowledge and goals.

The Trip.

Along the way cyclists visit rural schools, learn about Street Child projects and experience the culture in a completely unique way. For more information on the challenge please visit the website here.

The successful applicant will join the Street Child team and international cyclists on their 5-day journey of 300 km across rural Sierra Leone. Whilst documenting the trip and the landscape around you, you will get the chance to get stuck into this epic adventure, which involves staying in villages far off the beaten track, and meeting the children and families who have benefited from Street Child’s support.

 

The Role.

Use your journalistic to film or photograph the West Africa Cycle Challenge.

  • Capture a visual media library of the trip.

  • Collect images and stories from Street Child’s child education projects in Sierra Leone

  • For those volunteers who are able to stay longer, you will also be providing training to our local partners on case study writing and photography.

  • Collect programme updates and content for Street Child website and media platforms

  • Liaising with Street Child UK and in-country teams to meet your brief given by the Communications Team in London.

Person Specifications.

  • A degree or professional experience in journalism, marketing, media, or other relevant subjects

  • A demonstrable ability in communications

  • Experience in photography

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Professional and diligent in presentation and conduct

  • Independent and capable of proactive work plan management with minimal support

  • Flexible, adaptable and able to thrive in a startup environment

  • Thoughtful, resourceful, reflective, and eager to learn

  • Culturally responsive and respectful

  • Keen interest in understanding and contributing to the development sector
