Race Week Team Leader
Sierra Leone Marathon Volunteer
What would I be doing?
As a race week team leader you will be assisting us on the delivery of this truly amazing event! Voted ‘Best International Event’ at the 2017 Running Awards you will support our team throughout the week across all areas, from project visit coordination to organising entertainment in the Clubhouse each evening. Arriving a day earlier than marathon runners, you will join the Street Child team for a briefing and understand what it means to deliver such a crazy event. From being the team leader for your project visit to the varied tasks on race day this is sure to be busy and fast paced. Looking after a dedicated group of runners, you will work closely with the Street Child team to ensure they have the best trip possible.
You will be staying in one of the local guesthouses or hotels in a town called Makeni, our base for the week and the home of the Sierra Leone Marathon. Depending on the accommodation package you choose, this could be basic accommodation with a fan and bucket showers, or a luxury (by Sierra Leone standards) hotel complete with air conditioning and a swimming pool.
This is a fast-paced role that will test your skills in team leadership, operations and problem-solving in the exciting Sierra Leonean setting. The role is all-encompassing and challenging but absolutely essential to the smooth-running of the marathon. Team Leaders must be flexible and adaptable, often required to go beyond their role description to get the job done. If you’re looking for leadership experience in a fast-paced and fun environment then this is the role for you!
A fundraising commitment is asked of all our volunteers, for which you will receive support from your volunteer coordinator.
For applicants with relevant experience able to prove their ability to add strategic value, there may be the possibility of attaining a more permanent position: almost all the charity’s paid staff began as interns or on a pro bono basis.
LOCATION: Makeni, Sierra Leone
