Current Opportunities - Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone is where it all started for Street Child. Having been there for 10 years now, our organisation is embedded throughout the country, with over 400 local staff. As a volunteer, you will get the chance to see how a grassroots organisation works successfully to create sustainable education projects. There is a huge variety of projects for you to get involved in, from football coaching to research to teacher training. The choice is yours, and all in a country filled with the friendliest people to live and work alongside!

Youth Roles

Football Coaching We are looking for proactive individuals with experience in playing football or coaching, to assist in coaching a primary school football team and help organise the Street Child inter-school football tournament in West Africa.

Skilled & Professional Roles

Communications Volunteer Street Child is calling for individuals with experience in communications to support our partner organisations and liaise with the UK office providing communications support. Key responsibilities will include collating case studies, building the visual media library and training local staff.

Research Volunteer This role allows a resourceful individual to take on a significant study into a specific area of interest. We are looking for several different types of research projects to be done, ranging from short and smaller pieces of work to more time consuming projects, including gender, disability, family business support, street-connected children, evaluation methods and teaching and learning.

International Teacher Training Programme We are looking for primary or secondary teachers (from PGCE students to senior management) who are looking for an exciting challenge. You will travel to Sierra Leone in the Easter or Summer holidays for 2 weeks and help us run some simple workshops and work alongside our Sierra Leonean teachers.

Enterprise Volunteer This is a unique opportunity to learn about the social enterprise sector and volunteering your skills in business and/or finance. You will be making a lasting contribution to the organisation and its aim to empower children through education.

Computer Skills Development This programme is in response to a crucial need on the ground to equip our local staff with the computer and data skills vital to their work. You will work closely with the Street Child's programmes team to provide a effective training programme, and travel across Sierra Leone to Street Child's rural stations.

Sierra Leone Marathon Operations Assistant The Sierra Leone Marathon is the charity’s flagship event, having raised over 1.4 million pounds to support children in Sierra Leone and we are looking for an operations assistant to deliver an even bigger and better event.

Student Opportunities

Dissertation Research Role We are offering university graduates and post-graduates the opportunity to undertake their primary or secondary research in collaboration with Street Child's in-country teams. This is a short-term placement for those looking to explore the scope of their own dissertation projects.
