Street Child’s volunteer programmes are designed to give skilled volunteers the opportunity to provide support to our development work overseas and make a lasting and meaningful difference to the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable children.

Three Key Principles:

Sustainable Impact.

Sustainability sits at the heart of Street Child’s global programmes. Our volunteers provide support to our teams on a needs basis, so they can make a long term and positive impact on our international projects.

Responsibility.

Volunteers are given responsibility over their own work from the word “Go”, which means pro-activity is key. This is your chance to gain practical experience in the field and build your career by working within an internationally acclaimed organisation.

Collaboration.

Working directly with local Street Child staff, you'll learn as much as you give, and have an adventure you’ll never forget. This is an opportunity to learn directly from those who are experts in their field, and who have local insight into your new context.

About Street Child.

Street Child is a grassroots charity that helps children living in some of the toughest places in Africa and South Asia to go to school. We are dedicated to empowering vulnerable children through education and currently have a special focus on girls’ education and education in emergencies.

Who We Are.

121 million school-aged children are currently out of education world-wide.  Millions more children are in school but failing to learn. Street Child believes that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step that can be taken towards the elimination of global poverty.

Where We Work.

Street Child prides itself on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states. We began our work in 2008 in Sierra Leone and we now also work in Liberia, Nigeria, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Burundi, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

What We Do.

We recognise that the barriers to education are complex and interlinked, and our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis.

Wherever we work we partner with local organisations and take an outcome-led approach.  We use evidence to drive learning and the constant refinement and scale-up of programmes that create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost.
